Why Seamer was selected as a site for a wind farm

The site was selected following an extensive search throughout Teesside and North Yorkshire on the basis of its:

  • Strong wind resource, at more than 6.7 metres per second at 45 metres above ground level;
  • Good road access;
  • Adequate distance away from houses;
  • Distance from North York Moors National Park and other designated areas; and
  • Robust local electrical infrastructure.

Should the project go forward, it will help towards:

  • Stockton's contribution to the Teeside area's renewable energy target of 138 MW - as proposed in the draft North East of England Regional Spatial Strategy (Feb 2008), Policy 40, and
  • Hambleton's renewable energy target of 40.3 MW - as detailed in the North Yorkshire and Humberside Plan, Regional Spatial Strategy (May 2008), Policy ENV5.
